This is episode 16 of the be that mom movement podcast. And today we are going to talk about supporting you as the mom and helping you to have your own space for fulfillment and joy in your life. And also how you can use the digital world to help you in the process.

(00:16): Welcome to your source for tips, tools, and support to help you be that mom that is tuned in and proactive for yourself, your family, and for the wild ride of raising kids in this digital age, inspired by a mother's love with a relatable real life. Proud to be that mom flair. This is the be that mom movement with your host Dolly Denson.

(00:43): Alrighty. So today's episode is all about you. It is supporting you. I know they're all about helping you, but this is not so much on kid focus and digital things as how the digital world can serve you to create a space for yourself to diversify what you were doing in life to bring in extra income and the process, and just use the digital world to your advantage. And the reason that I think that is important is because when I was going through my toughest days, realizing how profound the digital world had influenced my kids, that I was completely oblivious and unaware of it was having not only kind of that fitness and nutrition and mindset routine that I've talked about in other episodes, but it was also having something that I felt I was in control of. And that brought me joy each day. For me, that looked like the tools that I use for fitness and nutrition also had an opportunity connected to them, to where I could share this with other people and have an income for myself because the company realized that that's where the power of the products are, is in the people that are using them and sharing them with people that they know in their own lives that trust them.

(01:51): So that had created a small little business and an income for me and was a place where I could go and find fulfillment and joy in my life. In addition to my job and my role as a mom, I think that's like the most important thing in our lives. In our role as a mom is to have a place that is our place that we control, that we find joy in. And that is just all ours. So I want to talk about six ways that you could do this for yourself. The first one is simply to bring in extra income for you, maybe a little extra spending money, look around your house and sell things that are gently used, or you don't use anymore. Such as clothing, shoes, toys, furniture can sell these online on different platforms. You can sell them on eBay or Craigslist or Facebook marketplace.

(02:38): And then there's multiple other apps that you can sell items to. Other people who may find them valuable, sort of like an online garage sale. I actually have a ton of Vera Bradley bags. And so I've been looking at them and thinking of doing that because I love Vera Bradley bags, but I just don't use all of them. I don't carry a huge purse anymore, especially in the midst of this. COVID-19 typically have my tiny little wallet in my phone that I carry into stores. So I just don't use the large bags anymore, except for the ones that I use when I travel, which we can't even do that right now, either. Okay. So it's considerate an online garage sale. It would be a place for you to kind of declutter, which sometimes that brings peace of mind too. And to bring a little bit of an income and from that.

(03:21): So the second thing is, if you are creative in some way, and you have something that you created eight such as clothing or a logo sticker to put on a shaker cup or a bracelet, something that you can create multiple of and sell, you can sell it on a digital platform, such as Etsy or eBay or Facebook, marketplace Craigslist, and multiple other places. You can sell these things and bring in an income. And especially if it's something you enjoy doing, then it's a wonderful thing to enjoy what you do and receive an income from it. The third thing that you could do is affiliate marketing. And if you're not familiar with that term, affiliate marketing is actually all around us. Now, if you look at something that you purchase and they send you a little code and say, share this with friends, to give them $10 off and you get $10 off, that is one form of affiliate marketing.

(04:13): It's very, very powerful. And it's what companies have realized is the way to go with marketing these days because people just aren't watching television with commercials like they used to be. And so the power of marketing doesn't lie in paying for commercial spots anymore. The power of products is in the hands of the people that use them. So when you refer someone to eat at a restaurant, they're more likely going to listen to you as someone that they know and trust rather than an ad on Facebook or a commercial somewhere that they are seeing. So companies have realized this and are giving back and synonyms for you to do that. One example of affiliate marketing of affiliate marketing that you will hear about on my show are things like my soul CBD. The key to affiliate marketing is to share things that you truly use in love.

(05:01): The last thing that you want to do is recommend something that you yourself aren't using and consider to be high quality. I would never refer any of you to use a product or a program then that I am not already using in that I don't find valuable. So when I talk about it, my soul CBD, it is because I have, we used it and it has profoundly helped me with anxiety and just dealing with the day to day stress of being a mom. I also talk about audible because I use audible. There's multiple other things that you'll hear me mention from time to time. And when I offer a code or a discount code, it is because I want to pass that onto you as a gift to you, because it has helped me in my life too. So that's where affiliate marketing can be so powerful.

(05:44): The fourth thing is if you have some sort of service that you can teach or share, like in an online course or a coaching platform, you could create a website. You can use platforms such as teachable.com or thinkific.com. They both have a way for you to create a course where you do videos, or you do PowerPoint presentations that you talk through, where you could teach someone what your specialty or craft is. You can also create a YouTube channel or do this through any of the social media platforms. Or you can use something like what I'm using here, which is a podcast. If you feel like maybe you don't want to be on video, but you could talk and share this information and offer this value to someone else. A podcast is a great way to do that for me, when I first started thinking about doing a podcast.

(06:34): So like, Ooh, I don't know. I don't think that all sound good on like radio. You know, I don't know that my voice will sound good, but I knew that I had information that I wanted to share. And I got tired of the limitations of social media, like Facebook, not showing stuff and the algorithm thing and trying to beat that, or, you know, trying to just work with that, to get people, to see my stuff. So I still use those platforms, but podcasting company implements it. It's a way for me to reach more people and get this information out. You don't have to be connected with me on social media in order to see it. And podcasting is also become a very, very popular platform for doing this type of thing. So if you have information that you want to share with somebody, this is a very viable way to do it.

(07:21): And as a side note, if you have any interest in doing it podcast, I used a course. Yeah. That was amazing. And took me step by step through it all. I actually started thinking about doing it in purchase this course at the beginning of January, and then was so busy with my nurse practitioner job that I couldn't slow my roll enough to get it all implemented, even though it was all right there for me. So when it came to about beginning of March, I said, okay, I have got to get this up and running. I'm going to get it up and running in this next week. And right about that time is when this whole pandemic thing happened. And I was forced to slow my roll because we could not go out and work and do all of those things. And so then I got it up and running within a couple of days.

(08:03): So it's an amazing course. If you have any interest in that, I will put a link in the show notes for that course. I am an affiliate for her course because it absolutely simplified. It all gave me all the ins and outs of the tech and the equipment and all of the things. So it really, really is something that can help you to get it going quickly. If you have that passion and you know, what you wanna do talk about, she also has different courses that she can help you to clarify what it is you want to teach or talk about, and to get your message out in a clear and concise way. So definitely check out that link. She is amazing and she can definitely help you and newsflash for podcasting, you don't need a ton of equipment. You need a computer. And right now the last couple episodes that I've recorded have been off of my iPhone.

(08:49): Like seriously, I have a microphone, I have a headset. I bought those off Amazon. It was just a little, a hundred dollars for it all. And I can link those in the show notes too, but realistically, you don't have to have those things. If you have an iPhone or a good phone that has a quality speaker. So don't let that hold you back. If you're interested in doing something like that. So the fifth thing would be if you have services that you can sell such as if you're a virtual assistant or you want to become a virtual assistant, if you have a good voice and you want to do voiceovers like you here at the beginning and end of my podcast, that is someone I found in this realm that is really good at doing those voiceovers because I couldn't get myself to create that little blurb of information without it sounding stupid to me when I first started and now I could probably do it, but then I was just too nervous and it was holding me back from getting my podcast up and running.

(09:43): So I'm like, okay, let me just pay someone to do this for now. And then I'll go back to it. But other things you could do, or like if you are, have graphic design capabilities or a whole other realm of things that they have two such websites that you can sell these services on, they are fiverr.com. And that's F I V E R r.com or upwork.com U P w O R k.com. Both of those are places where you can list a job or you can find a job. They also have like podcast editing, website, design, writing articles. It's just amazing how much information is on there. The possibilities are endless. The sixth thing is network marketing or direct sales. And I know a lot of people when they hear those terms, they run for the Hills or they think scam or salesy or a pyramid scheme.

(10:34): And I know I have thought those things too, but in reality, a pyramid scheme is illegal and will be shut down immediately. A pyramid scheme is actually where there's no product or service exchanged. It's just getting commissioned from signing people up and the people at the top make more than the bottom. And it there's no possibility of anyone below making more than the ones at the top. If you think about it, actually a corporate structure or CEO structure is much like a pyramid scheme because the CEO always makes more, the ones down below cannot make more than the CEO. You just won't find that. So not saying that those technically are pyramid schemes, but every type of business structure somehow looks like a pyramid. So I had to throw that mindset out the window a long time ago. And I'm so glad I did because I've found the best quality makeup, the best quality cookware, fitness and nutrition products.

(11:26): It's basically a company that truly believes in good quality products and wants to get it into the hands of other people. And once to make sure that the value is there and that just like a feeling that marketing you are hearing from people that you trust and that, you know, would not be sharing something with you. If it was not legit for me personally, in the fitness and nutrition realm that I am in, there is so much false and inaccurate and deceiving information out there that I would personally never go with anything that didn't have that personal touch connected to it. And the company that I associate with actually started there opportunity like this because the first programs that they produced on DVD, they found that they were being shared more and selling more through the people that were using them and sharing them with people that they know.

(12:19): And so they realized that that was going to bring their programs to life and to keep them alive and to make them more powerful in the consumers and the people that use them. And personally, I used to also think that it was somehow icky for me to sell something or to make money off of people. I know, but if you think about it, Amazon doesn't feel guilty for selling us stuff for getting us whatever we need within a day or two target. Doesn't feel guilty for having all those little incentives. When we first walk in the store that we ended up spending a ton of money on Walmart, doesn't feel guilty for having all of this stuff in one place. All of these companies sell us stuff. So how is it that we should feel guilty for selling something to family and friends when it's something we're using, we find very valuable, possibly spend such a gift in our life.

(13:06): There's no reason to feel guilty about it. Okay. So even you can use that mindset for any of these things that I've mentioned. There's no reason to feel guilty for selling something that's of value that you want someone else to have as a benefit in their own life. So I hope that these six things were helpful for you. I think it's so, so powerful for you to have a police in your own life that is yours. That brings you joy. That helps you to feel good when you wake up each day and helps you to have the life that you want to live, where you feel in control. So I hope this was helpful and I will talk to you next time.
